Boston Dynamics adds visual AI to Spot: map-free autonomy

Spot, Boston Dynamics' robot dog, received a significant update: it can now move through industrial environments without a pre-programmed map, using cameras and AI to understand its location and surroundings.

Spot can also detect visual anomalies — like fluid leaks, overheated equipment, or unusual situations — during routine inspections. This makes it useful not just as a mobile platform but as an intelligent monitoring tool.

Companies using Spot in factories, oil plants, or construction sites can now reduce staff in high-risk routine inspections.
