Claude arrives: the first serious ChatGPT competitor
In one sentence Anthropic launches Claude, an AI assistant trained with Constitutional AI. Same day as GPT-4. Two versions: Claude (full) and Claude Instant (faster and cheaper).

On the same March 14 that OpenAI announces GPT-4, Anthropic — a startup founded by ex-OpenAI researchers — ships Claude. It's the first model that isn't "a ChatGPT copy": different tone, different style, safety tackled with a new method (the "constitution" described in December).
For developers, it's the first real choice: use GPT-4 or use Claude. For companies, the birth of "AI vendor diversification" — don't depend on a single provider.
