Microsoft has Azure OpenAI since January 2023 and is winning enterprise customers at an uncomfortable pace. AWS responds with Bedrock: a managed service that lets companies call multiple AI models like they would a database or a queue, without worrying about GPUs, scaling, or security.

The new thing is that Bedrock isn't tied to one provider. From the same endpoint you can use Anthropic's Claude, AI21's Jurassic-2, Stable Diffusion for images, and Amazon's new Titan models. The enterprise picks the model, AWS runs the infrastructure.

At announcement it's "limited preview" and pricing is private. It hits general availability in September 2023. For companies already on AWS, it's the easiest way to do AI without switching vendors: existing privacy, IAM, VPC, and billing all carry over.
