Grok-1: xAI's chatbot with real-time access to X data
In one sentence Elon Musk's xAI launches Grok-1, a model integrated with X (Twitter) for real-time information, with a 314B MoE architecture released as open weights in March 2024.
In November 2023, Elon Musk launched his AI assistant called Grok, built by his new company xAI. The feature that set it apart from ChatGPT and Claude was one thing, but an important one: Grok could access posts on X (formerly Twitter) in real time.
This means that while other models had a "knowledge expiry date," Grok could answer about events that happened that same day. If you want to know what's happening in the world right now, that's a huge difference.
In March 2024, xAI did something unexpected: they made the underlying model weights public (314 billion parameters, with a "mixture of experts" architecture), allowing researchers to examine and use it freely.
