Google MusicLM: generating music from text goes public
In one sentence Google makes MusicLM publicly available via Google Labs: musical generation from text description in a specific style, the first consumer music AI integration from a big tech company.
Google had presented MusicLM as research earlier in 2023, but made it available only to selected researchers. With integration into Google Labs, the technology becomes accessible to anyone with a Google account.
MusicLM allows describing in text the type of music you want to hear — instruments, style, mood, era — and the model generates audio clips consistent with the description. A user can write "1950s jazz with featured trumpet and a late-night atmosphere" and hear the result in seconds.
This is the first significant example of a major tech company bringing AI music generation directly into its consumer ecosystem, marking a jump in mainstream adoption.
