Claude 3.5 Sonnet: the mid-tier that beats everything
In one sentence Anthropic releases Claude 3.5 Sonnet: outperforms Claude 3 Opus (the previous flagship) at Sonnet pricing ($3/$15). Introduces 'Artifacts': side-panel output for code, documents, charts.
Reading level
Anthropic doesn't upgrade the top model (Opus) but the middle one (Sonnet). Strange result: the new Sonnet beats the old Opus on almost everything, and costs five times less. It becomes the default for paying API customers.
Alongside the model comes Artifacts: instead of all code/document content inside the chat, the result appears in a side panel that can be edited, executed (for web code), iterated on. Profoundly changes LLM-work UX.
