Cursor Composer: agentic multi-file editing in the AI-native editor
In one sentence Anysphere ships Composer in Cursor 0.40: a multi-file mode where the editor simultaneously edits multiple files following a coordinated plan, a first step toward a fully IDE-integrated coding agent.
Cursor was already a popular code editor among programmers — a kind of VS Code with better-integrated AI. Until now its AI mostly worked one file at a time.
With Composer that changes: ask for something like "add Google authentication," and Cursor edits all needed files together — backend, frontend, config, database migration. It shows a single diff and you accept or reject.
Technically it's the first truly usable "agent" inside an IDE: it plans, edits, asks you to review. This is the moment Cursor goes from "best autocomplete" to "little coworker writing features."
