Physical Intelligence's π0: the first cross-embodiment robotic foundation model
In one sentence Startup Physical Intelligence (Karol Hausman, Sergey Levine) releases π0, a 3B generalist robotic foundation model trained on 10k+ hours of cross-embodiment data, capable of skills like laundry folding and making coffee.
Physical Intelligence (P.I., pronounced "pi") is a startup founded in 2024 by ex-DeepMind and ex-Google researchers with a huge goal: do for robotics what GPT did for text. A "generalist" model that adapts to different robots and different tasks.
In October they release π0 (pi-zero), their first model. They demo it by having a robot fold sheets and shirts straight out of the dryer — one of the hardest tasks because fabrics are soft and unpredictable.
The twist: the same model works on different robots (industrial arms, mobile humanoids). It isn't specialized for one hardware.
