Stargate Project: the $500B AI infrastructure plan announced at the White House
In one sentence OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank and MGX announce a $500B four-year investment plan to build AI infrastructure in the US. First site in Abilene, Texas.
Stargate is a plan to build giant AI-dedicated data centers in the United States. The announced number is huge: $500 billion over four years, with $100 billion deployed immediately.
Main partners: SoftBank (Japan) as financier, OpenAI as "operator" using the capacity, Oracle as cloud provider, and MGX (UAE sovereign fund). Microsoft remains a partner but in a different role than before.
The announcement happens at the White House with newly inaugurated President Trump: AI is now explicitly American industrial policy, not just startup news. The first campus is under construction in Abilene, Texas. The promise: jobs, US tech dominance, independence from Chinese chips.
