Amazon Releases Nova Model Family on Bedrock
In one sentence Amazon's Nova family spans three tiers: Nova Micro (ultra-fast text), Nova Lite (low-cost multimodal), Nova Pro (frontier multimodal). Available on Bedrock, Nova Pro beats GPT-4o on document understanding.
Amazon entered the foundation model race with their own family of AI models called Nova, available exclusively through their AWS Bedrock platform. They released three versions for different needs. Nova Micro is extremely fast and cheap, handling text-only tasks like summarization and classification at high volume. Nova Lite is the middle option — it understands images and documents as well as text, at a low price. Nova Pro is the powerful option, competing with top-tier models and beating GPT-4o specifically on tasks involving document understanding. The strategy is clear: give AWS enterprise customers first-class AI without having to send data to OpenAI or Google. For companies already running on AWS, Nova models integrate natively with S3, Lambda, and other services, meaning no data leaves the AWS ecosystem.
