Claude in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint: Anthropic completes its Office 365 invasion
In one sentence With the April 2026 release of Claude for Word, Anthropic completes its native AI integration into Office 365. Cross-app shared context, pivots/charts in Excel, slide editing in PowerPoint, contracts in Word.
Microsoft has had Copilot inside Office since late 2023. Anthropic, the main rival to OpenAI/Microsoft on enterprise models, had no native Office presence. Between early 2026 and April 2026 that changes completely.
Milestones:
- Excel (January 2026, expansion in March): pivot table editing, chart modification, conditional formatting via Claude;
- PowerPoint (launched in research preview with Opus 4.6 on February 5): generates and edits slides respecting masters, layouts, fonts, and brand colors;
- Shared context (March 2026): Claude remembers what you were doing in Excel when you switch to PowerPoint, and vice versa. No copy-paste, no "re-explain what you're doing";
- Word (April 13, 2026): completes the classic trio. Drafting contracts, long-document summaries, smart find-and-replace, redlining.
The move is strategic: Anthropic puts Claude exactly where knowledge workers spend 80% of their day, taking ground from Microsoft Copilot. Available via Claude account or via an LLM gateway on Bedrock, Vertex AI, Microsoft Foundry — so compatible with compliance/data residency scenarios that Copilot doesn't always solve.
