Apple WWDC 2026: Apple Intelligence 2.0 with 4B parameter on-device models

Imagine having a personal assistant who not only understands what you say, but can actually carry out complex tasks for you step by step, without you needing to spell out every detail. That is what Apple showed at WWDC 2026 with Apple Intelligence 2.0.

The biggest change is under the hood. The AI models running directly on your iPhone or Mac have grown from around 3 billion to 4 billion parameters — think of it as the assistant having studied a great deal more and being able to reason in a much more sophisticated way. Crucially, all of this happens on the device itself, so your data never leaves your hands.

Siri has taken a huge leap forward. It can now handle multi-step tasks autonomously. You can say "book a restaurant near the office for Friday evening and add it to the whole family calendar" and Siri will actually do it — opening the right apps, filling in the forms, and confirming the reservation without you lifting a finger.

Visual Intelligence 2 turns the camera into an intelligent eye that understands what is happening in a scene in real time. It goes beyond recognising objects: it can read text, identify products, interpret situations, and answer questions about the physical world in front of you.

Privacy has also been strengthened. Private AI browsing protects your web searches, Private Cloud Compute has been expanded to handle more complex requests while keeping data confidential, and for the first time you can generate images entirely on-device with no internet connection required.
